Meet Richard Guha

Advisory Board Member

Richard Guha brings over 45 years business experience to Wear Wool New London. Currently an Entrepreneur in Residence at Sacred Heart University, he has also served as a CEO of a Fortune 100 company, Chief Marketing Officer of two others and been involved in over 2,000 startups since 1992. He also serves as a mentor at both Yale and Cambridge Universities. With his vast experience we feel fortunate to have him on our team.

In helping chart our course for 21st-century wool, Richard draws on fond childhood memories of visits with his maternal grandfather in Bradford, West Yorkshire, England, then the wool capital of the world. "One doesn't dry clean a wool suit," Richard recalls his grandfather admonishing, "One steams it – rarely."

We channel Richard's grandfather as we revive our Northeastern American wool economy with English breeds he would know well, first introduced by colonial settlers.

What excites you about Wear Wool New London?
The idea of re-inventing the wool supply chain and creating new products.

What is one idea that has fundamentally changed you/your life trajectory?
The idea that I have seen or experienced again and again that "received wisdom" is dangerous, and that virtually any system can be redesigned for the better.

What analog object or activity do you enjoy?
Steam engines.

If you could live in another time period when/why?
One hundred years from now, because I am curious to see how things turn out.

What has living during a pandemic taught you?
It is fascinating in so many ways. Learning about how people behave and use technology, having missed the great crises of the past 1,000 years.

In one sentence your positive prediction or hope for the future.
We will be better connected through technology, not only in terms of things, but in understanding.
